The internet is broken. Filter bubbles, fairy tale traps and Facebook scandals are the order of the day. What start out so beautifully as a decentraliz and democratic system is now controll by a handful of large tech companies. We have become the product ourselves. We share our data en masse with these companies, with all the negative consequences that fax lists  entails. In my opinion, the internet is the most important technological revolution that we as humanity have ever seen and will increasingly impact our daily lives in the coming years. But how can it become all of us again? Web3 is the next evolution of the internet, which will deal with the many problems that it currently plagues.

Data is being us against us

Today’s web has become different from what its inventors envision, says founder of the World Wide Web Tim Berners Lee . The goal of allowing people to find information and connect with each other has certainly been achiev, but that same possibility has also caus major problems. Combin with digital authoritarianism, data and information are now being us against us as citizens. By directing our opinions, by algorithms that identify innocent people as perpetrators and even incite them to commit suicide. As Marleen Stikker writes in her book The Internet is Broken – But We Can Repair It : “We have lost our digital sovereignty. We are being listen to, direct, follow, liv, and we have allow it to happen.”

The big tech companies Google, Facebook and Amazon offer insane services that represent great value for billions of people on our planet.  the target audience has grown older Google’s search engine simply works best when it has all the information. But on the other hand, they have gain a terrifying power over our daily lives.

It’s time for a fresh new start for the web! With the right drivers, a safer and stronger infrastructure, fairer, more democratic and govern by the collective. Tim Berners clean email  Lee came up with the term ‘web3’ in 2006 , but it was populariz again in 2014 by co-founder of the famous blockchain Ethereum, Gaven Wood. According to him, Web3 is very simple: ” less trust, more truth”.
