What is the average CTR from position 1 to 10 in Google? Does it still make sense to invest in SEO or would you be better off investing your time and money in GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)?

Just like in 2024 and 2023, we have researched the average CTR from position 1 to 10 in Google. This year we analyzed 190,024 keywords, from 100 Google Search Console accounts. In this article we look at the average CTR per position and give tips on how to use this data. The CTR is different for every keyword and every sector, at the end of the article you will find a guide on how to perform the same analysis for your accounts.

How was the data collected?

With the Google Search Console API we were able to retrieve the data. Due to the list to data recent addition of a ZIGT location in Belgium we were also able to include data from Belgium in the research. In short:

The data is from the last quarter of 2024.
Statistics are broken down by keyword and device.
We disregarded keywords with less than 50 impressions and/or less than 5 clicks.
Accounts with too little data per position have been write without mistakes. we’ve found some tips you’ll want to print out.  manually filtered out.

This resulted in 100 accounts with enough data.

We need to add nuances
Without nuances it is not fair to make a statement about the CTR per position. The CTR depends european union email list  on a lot of factors and differs per keyword and industry. Major factors are advertisements and active SERP features on the keyword.

In addition, the duration of this research is a quarter, in which positions can change. Because we want to calculate the CTR per device and therefore break down results, an account must contain a reasonable amount of data to be included in the research.
